LECTURE

Week 1

In the first week of the class, our lecturer explained the module task, and the first task was to create a design. This task is also a contest submission. We will have to choose any of the competition themes and choose what design we are going to make.

After we choose what theme and design we will be making, the next 7 weeks will only be for consultation for this project.

INSTRUCTIONS

In this project, we will create a design piece for an ongoing competition. For the next 7 weeks, we will focus on a design for the HONOR Competition.

There are 3 themes to choose from and different design items, such as:

• Renewal of life · Return
• Cultural Prosperity · Celebration
• Genesis · The Future

There are 2 categories for this event "Visual Communication Design" & "Art & Technology"

The Visual Communication Design include:

• Wallpapers
• Theme
• Watches
• Open Designs

For me, I chose Cultural Prosperity and created a wallpaper. The festival I chose for the theme is the Lantern Festival. After deciding on the theme I started doing some sketches and finding inspiration.

Week 2 Feedback: Try to combine both Traditional and modern together and create many lanterns. Maybe a traditional building at the back of a modern building.

At first, I went in a random direction until I slowly grasped what elements I wanted to set in. Then I started to have an Idea to combine.

Week 3 Feedback: Maybe add a lots of lantern.

Week 4 Feedback: Move the moon and make the lantern sway directly to the moon.

Week 6 Feedback: Reposition the lantern for it to be lifelike. If there is no time first put in the key animation elements (lantern & kid waving). If you have time then add the additional finishing as well be mindful and don't make and erase.

REFLECTION

Doing this project was actually hard for me, I kept making and making new design ideas until I felt comfortable with one of them and I still redo them when I'm unsatisfied with the progress. I felt pressured when I thought about the meaning behind the design and questioned if it aligned with my initial concept.
