Typography Task 3
LECTURE
Week 8
In the lecture video provided by Mr. Vinod. He told us about task 3, we first need to read the module given, then do research on other typefaces on the internet or Pinterest, after we did a good amount of research, we start sketching.
Fig. 1.1 (Lecture)
For sketching, Mr. Vinod recommends we do "O, H, T, A". after making a few sketches, we then choose one or two sketches that we feel strongly about, then look or find the existing typefaces that have similarities in the 10typeface provided, if there is non then look for another outside the 10 typefaces.
After choosing the typeface, we then deconstruct it.
Fig. 1.2 (Lecture)
After finishing looking at the details and such, we then need to do a basic structure of our chosen letterform like in the picture below.

Week9
In the lecture video, Mr. Vonod taught us how to create typefaces using Fontlab 5 and 7. The first thing needed to do was to unite our typeface using pathfinder in Illustrator.
Then we copy it to Fontlab before copying it, we need to input the x and y-axis to the typeface then copy it into Fontlab.
In the Lecture video, I have to watch the video for Fontlab 5 before watching the video for Fontlab 7.
INSTRUCTION
Task 3 (A)
For this task, I first look at the variety of fonts provided in Adobe.

Below are a few Typefacesthat I find interesting.
Fig. 2.5 (Source:https://id.pinterest.com/pin/650699846165079558/)
For the Typeface above, I like the placement of thickness and thinness of the font, especially the circle that moves up and down.
Fig. 2.6 (https://pin.it/2cnCQqp)
Fig. 2.7 (https://pin.it/Qdi8sRq)
After looking more at other typefaces, I realise that I am very much attracted to a font that has thick and thin lines, so I tried doing something similar.
Fig.3.1 1st sketch
I like how "a, e, d, and b" turn out, as for the others I am not very satisfied with the results.
Fig. 3.2 2nd attempt
While looking more on Pinterest, I found another interesting looking font.
Fig 3.3 (https://pin.it/3tXzOml)
I very much like MISTO and Nesiota. Misto is very eye-catching and attractive to me and Nesiota is almost like handwriting which somehow makes me very comfortable while looking at it.
So I tried doing something similar like Nesiota.
Fig. 3.4 2nd sketch
I obviously didn't do well with the "i, e, and g". I want to make the "e" more circular, then for "g" I am confused if I should make it curved or have a sharp edge.
After creating sketches, I then start digitalizing them.
Fig. 3.5
First I make the lines to measure it before I start making the typeface.
Fig. 3.6
Mr. Vinod told me that my typeface is too heavy on the side that it makes it very uneven, and then he give me some tips on how to improvise it.
fig. 3.7 (Lecture)
Fig. 3.8 (Lecture)
Then I improvise my typefaces.

FEEDBACK
My typeface was too heavy on the side which make the typeface uneven.
REFLECTION
I tried to apply the change, Mr. Vinod suggested which is thickening the other side, but I still tried to make it close to my original typeface.
FURTHER READINGS
Since I was very confused about using pathfinder, I look up some tutorials on youtube.
