LIST

LECTURE

Week 6

This week we are learning about material studies, such as stones, wood, metal, etc. As well as structural design.

While in the process of ideation, it is suggested to be confident and use a 16:9 paper ratio landscape or portrait (if the structure is tall).

When making this we need to set a horizon, it is important because it will determine the perspective of where the horizon will look. There is foreground, midground, background, and sky.

When creating this, it is important to set some space to give the ye some rest.

Progress

In this project task, we will be creating an exterior environment based on the IP we have selected. The IP is used as a base and art guide while designing the process. Below is the description of the game I chose.

DEAD SPACE

Sketch

After creating a moodboard as our art guide, the next step is to compile references as much as possible, to do this I use Pureref to quickly collect and organize images.

While in the process of creating I use the silhouette drawing method to make me able to visualize as well figuring out the composition. After doing so I outline the sketch.

Fig. 4

I also did some sketches from other perspectives as well, but I want to emphasize the bright moon visual against the building. So I did another sketch from the front perspective.

Fig. 5

I was quite satisfied with this design so I continue with the colour scheme, and refine the drawing.

FEEDBACK

  • Give some hue to create an ambience.
  • The overview is fine, try to draw from different angles as well.
  • A little empty, consider adding little filters that will support the narrative, such as elements, buildings, structure, etc.

REFLECTION

During this exercise, I enjoy the whole process of drawing and ideation. Maybe because I used a game that I am already curious about, I was able to imagine the kind of world I want to build as well story. The ideation process wasn't exactly easy, I find it difficult to stray away from copying straight from the game itself while maintaining the style and theme I want to go with. But I am very satisfied with the result.
