LECTURE

Week 1

*no class*

There was no class due to it being a holiday, but there was a recording of our MIB in Teams.

Week 2

This week our lecturer re-brief us about MIB and what is to be expected for our task.

After briefing us about our task, he then proceeds to teach us about layout perspectives, such as vanishing points, horizons, and planes, and explains to us how the horizon formed in our eyes.

Week 3

This week we learn about perspective for more understanding of how view works.

Fig. 3 (Lecture)

The further the object is from the eyes the smaller it becomes, and the nearer the object, the more it will become big at the eye view. The placement of the object is important to make the image or drawing more believable.

Week 5

This week we are learning about color and lighting. With a direct example from our lecturer doing sky replacement. He first explains how light works.

Fig. 5 (Lecture)

As the example made by the lecturer, where the light positioned on the ball, it creates bright exposure where the light is and the further it is from the light the darker

After explaining how color works, our lecturer then proceeds to make an example of how to our sky replacement.

Week 6

After finishing the feedback session, our lecturer taught us about how light works.

Project 2: Invisible Set Extension

For this task, we can take a reference from a movie or story and create a land concept based on that. But before doing so we need to have an art direction or mind map of what we want to make.

After finishing project 2, I start to clean it up a bit and merge the layers, then I start doing the final project using after effects.

FEEDBACK

Week 6

Night sky aren't always full of stars. Look at reference for the coloring of the sky and building because it looks to orange.

Week 13

Create shadows on the rocks

Week 14

Add shadow to create the flow of the rocks. Fix the terrain floor and add some spare dirt spots. The tree's color is not the same as the leaves on the floor terrain. It's a bit dark, lighten the shadow part a bit. It was suggested to change the house into a wood house or cottage since it was to hard to assimilate the sweet house into the drawing, but if possible then try to assimilate some sweet texture into it.

REFLECTION

I learn a lot of things in this module. I wasn't able to follow them perfectly but I learn a lot of new stuff and knowledge of using the tools. If anything I was not patient enough and keep rushing stuffs around, which make me lacking. I was able to learn how perspective works and the in-depth stuff like light and color, identifying vanishing point, and such alike. Painting objects and scenery using photoshop and learning to pick color without having to use eyedropper tool, this also help me learning about color theory and contrast.

The hardest part is trying to create the 2nd project. I tried to use a candy house and try as much as possible to assimilate it with the surrounding by changing some of its parts so it doesn't look out of place and changing the light and shadow color, but it somehow doesn't work very well. So I follow the lecturer's suggestion to change it into a wooden house instead and I think it works quite well.
