LECTURES

Week 1

In the first week of the class, Ms. Anis briefed us about the module and the exercise we will need to do.

Then she explains about Quantifying data and how to do it.

Week 2
This week we were shown the Flip task that was given to given groups explaining a different type of Infographic and the characteristic of those Infographics.

Week 3

In today's class, Ms. Anis brief us about the Flip 3 project and which group will have to do this topic. Then we were given time to do our Project 1 which is to choose our Grannies from the Pasta Granny Channel on YouTube and make a breakdown of the recipe.
After Ms. Anis, next is Mr. Martin. He gave us an individual exercise which is to make a motion graph and already divide us a part which we will need to do.

INSTRUCTIONS

Exercise 1: Quantifiable Information (Quantify & visualize data)

For this exercise, we were told to find any miscellaneous things we had at home, such as pens, buttons, lego, etc. Then we had to sort it out based on anything, like size, color, type, etc.

I tried to find things that are available inside my house. From all the things that I think are plenty and have variety, I look up to my little brother's toys. There are many kinds of toys available and it's pretty old. I look through every box and found these two things possible.

Fig. 1.2 Plastic balls

After looking at the number available, I choose to use the building blocks for my exercise. I sort it out based on colors and size, which then resulting this.

Fig. 2

Next, I pick up some papers and tape them together to make a big piece that I could use to make the graph for easier distinction.

Fig. 3.1

Fig. 3.2

When making this, I was thinking of drawing lines to make it look like story buildings, based on the width and length. Making the trapezium blocks as houses.

Exercise 2:  L.A.T.C.H

For this exercise, we need to make a design based on L.A.T.C.H

Fig. 1

For this design I first choose which pokemon I will put into the design do I can make a land suitable for them.

Fig. 2

So I choose the first 4 pokemon to be put into the island I will later make. Next, I adjust the size of the paper.

Fig. 3.1
fig. 3.2

Then I start to make the island design.

Fig. 4.1

Fig. 4.2
I am also looking for some references.

fig. 6.4

I already download the monsters and logo, but when I put it in illustrator it is not transparent even though I have confirmed that I download PNG files.

So I had to manually edit it in Photoshop.
Fig. 7

After finishing all the editing and typing. this is the result.

Fig. 8 (final)

In this Pokemon infographic, include the hierarchy of evolution, time, location, as well as category.

Infographic Re-design

In this exercise, we to redesign an existing infographic that is badly design or not very comprehensive enough. So I look at the internet for it. Below is some pictures that I found not very attrative.

Fig. 1
The reason why I pick this is because the words were too small, making it not easy to read. Also the way the flags are put, making it not easy to recognize what flags the country has.

Fig. 2

This infographic has no clear instruction on where should we start to cook, what's more it did give any details of what kind of ingredients are there.

Fig. 3

For this one, the illustration is really nice and easy for the eye, but too messy because there are tiny things here and there.

After looking at these 3 pictures that I took. I choose to redesign figure 3.

I use Canva to do my infographic.
Fig. 4.1

This is my idea of how I am going to make it.
Fig. 5.1

Fig. 5.2

I am uncertain which should I use so I make the first one.

Fig. 6.1

I also test some colors.
Fig. 6.2

Fig. 6.3

Fig. 6.4

Fig. 6.5

Fig. 6.7

Fig. 7 (final design)

Lastly is to compare both infographics.
Fig. 3

Fig. 7 (final design)

When comparing both infographics, there is some difference in it.

The reference I took has the advantage of being more eye-catching, there are lots of colorful and big illustrations, gaining quick attention and can instantly make people know that it is going to talk about pizza.

Different from mine, I don't have many colorful pictures or illustrations, but I did highlight the main thing about the infographic which is to cook pizza. I also make points to create a flow, so readers won't be confused about where to start.

Kinetic Typography

In this exercise, we have to turn a sentence from a song into motion typography,

So I first open my after effects and create the composition.

Fig. 1

After making the composition workspace, I think of how do I want it to be. How it moves, direction, and the type that expresses the sentences. I the sense of rebelliousness in the song, which is why I tried to find the best type available for this.

Fig.2.1
Fig. 2.2

For the audio, I download the MP3 version by converting youtube video using a tool provided by a website.

Fig. 3.1

Fig. 3.2
Then I continue editing the nodes.
Fig. 4.2

Fig. 4.3

Fig. 4.4

As you can see, here I started to mask the type.
Fig. 4.1

Fig. 4.5
And lastly, this is the result.

So, apparently, I mistook the task and did it in advance. Which is why I redo it and did it exactly as instructed in class.

Motion Graph

For this exercise, we are to make a motion graph. There are 4 types of motion and Mr. Martin have to divided us to do which type. Mine is Type A which is a Donut graph. Following the instruction in the given video links, I was able to easily make it.

This is my process of making it.

This is the final result.

Week 3 Task: Motion Graph

Vector/Character Animation
In the lecture, Mr. Martin already gave us some vector graphics for us to practice animation.

This is what I made.
Fig. 1

Fig. 2
It was a bit difficult but I somehow manage to make it. Below is the animation result.
